Lionel Messi scores two more goals in Argentina's victory over Jamaica to extend his undefeated streak to 35 games.
Who can defeat Argentina and Lionel Messi? After a 3-0 victory over Jamaica on Tuesday at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, their undefeated record has now lasted 35 games. Messi came off the substitute to score twice and cheered the Argentine audience home.
Despite claims that the 35-year-old superstar was feeling ill earlier in the day, he didn't enter the battle until nearly 30 minutes had passed. He then ignited a match that sorely needed it.
Messi scored both goals on his own. The first was a left-footed strike that was powerful enough to beat veteran Jamaica goalkeeper Andre Blake from beyond the area.
Messi defeated Blake once more in only two minutes .
Jamaica had a good start, but Argentina's brilliance eventually showed, particularly on Julian Alvarez's 13th-minute goal for Manchester City. Alvarez, who started in place of Messi, displayed goal-scoring prowess by latching onto a Lautaro Martinez cross and diverting it into the goal.
The opening 60 minutes of the game lacked momentum. Argentina's greatest moments came when they attempted to accelerate with wide-right or wide-left passes from Angel Di Maria or Alvarez, but despite their best efforts, there was little end result.
While Jamaica lingered, Argentina's Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi were busy pursuing Shamar Nicholson of Spartak Moscow and Michail Antonio of West Ham.

Running onto the pitch, supporters twice reached Messi. When the first one approached Messi in the 65th minute, security promptly pushed him over and encircled him. When the PSG forward scored his first goal, security once more responded.
Messi has 16 goals for his career on American soil after scoring four goals in each of Argentina's two World Cup warmup games this month.
